This year's Amsterdam Dance Event had some large-scale dance events going on: in the renovated Gashouder, in the Ziggo Dome, and in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, where 40,000 people packed in for David Guetta, Armin van Buuren and Afrojack.
But the real magic happens at many of the 1,300 smaller, intimate events scattered around the city. New partnerships forming, untapped talent waiting to be discovered and future stars performing for their early fans.
One such occasion was Melandru, a Dutch DJ and live percussionist performing 'Raw Drums' together with other percussion artists, creating a blend of UK garage/bass house and live percussion. They transformed the dancefloor into a unique, rhythmic experience where people are not watching the show or the DJ, but are part of an interactive experience. A sound of computers and humans.
To add to the drama, HEAR supplied its atmospheric washlights, creating Amsterdam's other red light zone: one of warmth, depth and community. Exactly what ADE is all about.
