PA systems from the top RCF line and Brooklyn Audio

Modular, practical, powerful, clear and technologically advanced. We work with active speakers from two brands that design and build their entire systems themselves: RCF from Italy and Brooklyn Audio from the Netherlands. Both systems consist of modular building blocks. The same cabinets that handle a cocktail evening for a hundred guests can, if combined and coupled, cover a dancefloor for fifteen hundred.

RCF KX SERIES

The KX series is RCF's touring line: designed and built in Reggio Emilia, from the drivers to the amplifiers and the software. Our standard for dancefloors is the KXL 4-A, a slim and tall cabinet with two 10-inch woofers and a 100° by 25° horn, flown per side as a tower of two or three cabinets. Below it we place SUB 9019-AS subwoofers with a 19-inch woofer, reaching down to 30 Hz.

What convinces us about RCF is the precise localisation of the sound. You can ‘see’ the singer standing where the vocals seem to come from. Software such as FiRPHASE makes all frequencies arrive at the same time. Bass Motion Control strengthens the low end and protects the woofer without distortion. We run the set with ‘ACE’ presets loaded via the RDTAP smartphone app, or with RDNet, which lets us see and control every cabinet remotely: level, EQ, temperature, limiters.

The cabinets are built for the road: birch plywood with a polyurea coating, steel rigging and an IP rating that can handle rain.

BROOKLYN AUDIO

Brooklyn Audio builds its own designs in-house in small series in the Netherlands. The Prospect top is a 15-inch three-way cabinet with built-in amplifiers, which works as a standalone full-range cabinet or can be combined with any Brooklyn sub. The X21 is the matching powerful sub with a 21-inch woofer.

Brooklyn designs all its cabinets with the same phase response. That means you can use them in any combination with the sound remaining coherent, and a small and a large set-up sound the same. The subs have built-in cardioid presets: the low end is aimed at the audience instead of the podium.

FRONT FILL, DELAY AND COMPACT SET

The KX 515-A is the small top from the same family as the KXL 4-A. At larger events we use it as front fill for the first few metres, or as delay further into the room, supporting the KXL tops. The same sound, in a compact size that can play different roles to fill voids where required.

With a SUB 808-AS underneath, the KX 515-A is a compact set in its own right, with hi-fi sound for talks and intimate parties of up to around 150 guests. This combination can also be used as a monitor in the DJ booth.

SPEAKERS AND SEMINARS

For talks, panels and presentations we work with a Yamaha DM3, a compact digital mixing console with scenes we prepare in advance, so changing speakers takes one press of a button. Speakers get a wireless lavalier microphone: invisible, hands-free, and intelligible all the way to the back of the room.
